The confidence that this team now has is a major step forward after starting the season off 1-2 with losses to South Carolina State and Xavier.
Tonight, the ‘Canes have a chance to go 3-0 against teams from the state of Florida when they take on FIU at Pharmed Arena.
Since Diaz struggled in the S.C. State loss, he has averaged 19.7 points per game. During that same stretch Hite has fared quite well himself averaging 24.7 points per game, including a career-high 38 points against FAU.
Anthony King has also come along quite well. After posting the first triple-double in UM history, King followed it up with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. King is currently averaging 5 blocks per game that leads the nation. His 10.6 rebounds per game has him tied for ninth in the nation.
FIU is coming in off a humiliating 99-48 loss to Connecticut, but has a win over FAU as well and a 3-2 record.
Junior Matias leads the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game. Ivan Almonte is averaging 13.2 points per game for the Golden Panthers who are under first-year coach Sergio Rouco.
UM leads the all-time series against FIU 8-1 and knocked off the Golden Panthers 89-72 at the Convocation Center last year. FIU's only win against Miami came 12 years and six days ago when it beat Miami 72-64.
