"Miami offered me right before Thanksgiving and I was real excited about it," Sharpton said. "Miami's the hometown program, the school I've always wanted to attend."
On Monday, Sharpton announced for the Hurricanes.
"I committed to the University of Miami," he said. "This is a dream opportunity for me and I'm really looking forward to it."
Sharpton, who is a full academic qualifier, picked the Hurricanes over Stanford in the end.
"Miami, they have all the great tradition and all the great linebackers to have come through there," he said. "Hopefully someday I can add my name to that list. A lot of people compare me to Jonathan Vilma. I just hope I can have that type of impact there."
