Adkins Talks Canes

As was reported on this site, Spencer Adkins made a commitment to Miami on Sunday and we finally caught up with him to talk about it. "It actually came out of nowhere," Adkins said.

"I kept telling myself all season that I'm gonna wait, I'm gonna take all my visits, and that I'm not gonna make an early commitment. But that all changed when I saw Miami."

Adkins, 5-11 1/2 and 225 pounds, said he was blown away with his trip to Miami over the weekend.

"It was everything I could possibly want in a school," he said. "I always thought about maybe playing for Miami and I've been there before. But this visit really did it for me. Tavares Gooden was my host. That's my boy. We hung out with some other players and stuff. They just convinced me that Miami's a great place like I originally thought."

The talented linebacker prospect said he enjoyed spending time with UM coaches as well.

"They're real straight up with everyone," he said. "They were telling me how they're disappointed with the 8-3 season but they know they have to get things fixed and they're confident that they'll come back next year ready to go again. They know what they're doing."

Adkins, a full qualifier, spent half the season playing linebacker and half the season playing defensive end.

"I'm definitely gonna be playing linebacker at Miami," he said. "They're trying to get three, I think. I know (Darryl) Sharpton committed. They like him a lot. He sounds like a great player."

With the commitment to UM in the books, does Adkins plan on taking any more visits?

"I'm done," he said. "No more trips. I'm a Hurricane. They've got everything I want and need and it's just a real good opportunity for me. It's only an hour away so when I can, I'll be able to go down there and workout (after signing day). I tried graduating early so I could start there in the spring but I'll be straight."
