"UM Just Offered Me"

Eric Houston had one of the best years of any defensive player in south Florida this season. He finished his senior season with 130 tackles, which led all of Dade and Broward County defenders during the regular season. Now he's turning his focus to recruiting and has some good news.

"Miami just offered me," Houston said tonight. "Coach Shannon came to my house and he talked about getting me to come out there and play for them. They really like me and now they want me."

Houston, 6-2 and 220 pounds, said there's a lot to like about the Hurricanes.

"They're the hometown school and I've always thought about playing for UM," he said. "It's a great program and I know they need some linebackers. I'm gonna be taking my visit out there next month so I'll really get to see what's up. I really don't have a favorite right now."

Houston, a full academic qualifier, has already visited NC State and West Virginia. He has three January visits lined up.

"My first two were tight," he said. "They're both cool places. NC State's got a lot of Florida guys on the team. I could see myself fitting in at either place. Florida State's my next visit the first of January (7th) and then I got UF and UM. I go to UM the weekend of the 22nd. That's when I'll be able to make a final decision."

The talented linebacker said he's not worried about depth charts or anything like that.

"I'm confident," he said. "I know what I'm capable of. I'm just gonna go where I feel most comfortable. I feel like I can compete at any of those schools."
