Brodrick Bunkley Interview

Tampa Chamberlain defensive lineman Brodrick Bunkley is drawing near to a final decision. Which of the Big 3 will land Bunkley?

"We haven't talked in a minute, so let me update you," he said. "I went to Florida State on January 11. It went real well. I like the coaches a lot. They're in dire need of defensive ends and Coach Bowden is just a hilarious guy. I think it's always good to have a strong relationship with your coach."

Bunkley then went to Florida this past weekend.

"Florida went real well too," he said. "The town wasn't real big, but they definitely have a college life there. Gainesville is one of those towns that's as fun as you make it. Coach Ron Zook is a great guy and they're very excited about next season."

Bunkley also enjoyed the food in Gainesville, so much that he couldn't believe the weight he put on.

"On Saturday morning, I stepped on the scale and was 258 pounds," he said. "Then the next morning, on the same scale, I weighed 268 (laughing). I knew I ate a lot, but I didn't know I ate that much."

Bunkley says he plans on being around 260 for his visit to Miami this weekend, which is about what his playing weight was all season, which was a super one in which he had 25 sacks.

"It's going to come down to my final visit," he said. "I'm making my final trip this weekend to Miami. This is the weekend that they're bringing in all the kids they really want. They asked me a long time ago if they could have my last visit. Greg Mark told me he wanted me to take all my visits, then see what I thought about Miami. If I like it the best, that's great. There's a chance that Miami will take the lead this weekend. Then after that, there's a chance for anyone to take the lead."

The talented defensive lineman said he's had an in-home visit with Bowden already this week, and Zook is scheduled to come by. He said he'll meet with UM coaches on his visit this weekend.

Personally, I still love our chances and I think we will get him in the end. Florida State appears to be slightly ahead of Florida on his list right now, but I think he saved the best for last. He'll be on campus with a host of other recruits that have already committed to Miami, so I think it can be a very strong impression on the big time defensive lineman.
