Hill Talks USF/UM

Carlton Hill returned home from his visit to South Florida Sunday. He spoke highly of the Bulls. "I just got back from there," Hill said. "It was real good. Everyone's like a big family there. It's a real good situation. They're up and coming and they're moving to the Big East next year."

"They struggled at quarterback this year and if I went there, I'd pretty much be competing with (Courtney Denson). They have a good team coming back but they're just missing one piece and that's a quarterback."

Hill, 6-2 and 210 pounds, said he hung out with several other recruits during the visit.

"I was with Jessie Hester, Taurus Johnson, a bunch of guys from Norland like Richard Gordon, and some other guys," he said. "They got some commitments. Jessie Hester commited and there were three linemen there who are now committed there."

The talented quarterback is scheduled to visit UM next weekend, followed by Ole Miss.

"Ole Miss got a new coach," he said. "It's the D-Line coach from USC. Those guys are real cool and I'm checking them out but it's be nice if I can stay close to home, like in Florida."

Hill said he's still high on the Hurricanes at this point in the process.

"Nothing's really changed with Miami," he said. "I still like them a lot. They're coming up here to see me sometime this week and then I'll take my visit on the weekend."

Hill said he recently heard the news of Derek Shaw's decision to back out of his UM commitment.

"I know he just de-committed," he said. "That really doesn't make a big difference to me. Miami started recruiting me real early. They offered me and I've been to their camp and everything. They've recruited me all year. I've talked to Coach Coker, Coach Soldinger. Basically all that's left is for me to go down there, check everything out for myself again, hang out with the players, and get a feel for what it's like being a player there."

Hill was listed as a commitment to the Bulls for most of the season. What's the status of that?

"It's tough to say right now," he said. "I might stick with USF but I'm really excited about Miami right now too. That's a big deal to me. Miami has a much better team right now. They're in a position to win more and compete for a national title. Plus, they're still putting a lot of guys into the NFL."

Hill is a full academic qualifier.
