Barney: Not Yet

Chris Barney, a Miami (Fla.) Northwestern offensive lineman widely considered one of the state's best, has narrowed his list of college choices down to four but it appears two schools have the edge at this point.

"It's Miami, NC State, USC, and Oklahoma," Barney said. "I've been to Miami and NC State and I'm supposed to go to Oklahoma this weekend but I'm not sure about that yet."

Barney, 6-5 and 320 pounds, has not yet visited Southern Cal and may not. It appears the Canes and Wolfpack have the upper hand.

"I like Miami and NC State a lot," he said. "It's probably gonna be between those two."

Barney was hoping to announce his final decision Wednesday on live television. However, that's been put on hold.

"It'll probably be next week," he said. "We have a little thing at the school where all of our players sign. I'll probably just do it (announce his decision) there."

The talented lineman was asked which school has recruited him the hardest from day one.

"Probably Miami," he said. "They came at me strong early and they never let up. They've had coaches come by my house. Larry Coker came. They've been totally straight up with me the whole time."

Barney says he's not ready to name a favorite but had good things to say about both his favorites.

"The coaches at NC State are real cool," he said. "They've got a lot of guys on their team from Miami and it seems like a nice place. Miami's right here. It's home and they've been coming at me all year."

Barney is a full academic qualifier.
