Stewart Discusses UM

Demetri Stewart is already attending classes at the University of Miami this semester as a member of the 2005 signing class and was introduced to the media on Signing Day. Stewart is a linebacker from Northeast High School in Oakland Park, Fla.

How much will it help your development that you are already on campus working out with the team?

I think this will help me out a lot because I am here working out with the strength coaches and trying to learn the playbook.

How have the workouts been going?

It has been all right. It is a lot faster than in high school.

How different is the area on campus from where you went to school?

I went to school in Fort Lauderdale so the area is similar as going to school here at the University of Miami. Things have been going real good since I have been here. The people and coaches are real genuine.

How has the transition been from adapting to a new team?

I felt a little bit like I did in high school when I came to the states from Jamaica in 1997. I kind of picked up football real quick and played varsity for three and a half years.

When you first started playing football, did you think that a day like this would be possible?

No, I couldn't imagine a day like this beacuse I had to learn a new sport basically on the fly. I picked it up real fast and I am happy with the situation I am in right now.

You are listed at 195 pounds, where are you at right now in the process of gaining weight?

Right now I am at 205 pounds.

Do you know the other linebackers that Miami signed in this year's class?

I don't know them very well. I know of Eric Houston from the Miami camp over the summer. I don't know the others.
