Offensive lineman Tyrone Byrd redshirted last season in his first year as a Hurricane. Byrd, from Sugar Land, Texas, was the left tackle on the first unit during spring practices last week.

How have spring practices been going?

It has been intense and I am enjoying it. I have also been learning a lot.

What are your thoughts on playing on the first unit throughout the first week?

It was good and a lot tougher than I thought it would be. It was a lot faster than I thought it would be and a lot faster than in high school. I am just trying to learn more each day.

What was last year like for you?

It was so amazing to me. Some people said we didn't do very well, but to me I think we did the best we could. It was a great experience to be around the great players.

Are there some guys that you grew close to?

I am pretty close to the whole offensive line. Everybody has their own ways and their own personalities, which is what makes our team so great because everyone comes together to create a community.

How would you describe the camarderie of the offensive line?

We all hang out and have fun. Coach Art Kehoe is one of the greatest coaches that I have ever ran into. I enjoy being

What is the key for you this spring to improve on your game?

To improve one step at a time.

Do you prefer the left side or the right?

I played left side in high school so it is like going back to an old position. But last year I played right tackle and right guard. It doesn't really matter where I am on the line.

Do you miss being away from home?

Sometimes when I see all of my friends go home after games, but I will just go back to my room.

What is your height/weight at right now?

I am about 6-5/6-6 and about 280 pounds.

Where would you like your weight to be?

I am trying to get up to 290 pounds or 295.
