Super Junior DT Likes UM (Interview)

Local coaches are already comparing him to former Palm Beach County standout defensive linemen Vince Wilfork and Santonio Thomas.

At 6-foot-4 and 293 pounds, Royal Palm Beach defensive tackle Dave Howell was among the best players at his position in south Florida this past season -- as a junior.

A three-year varsity starter, Howell finished the year with 85 tackles, 15 sacks, and four caused fumbles. Local coaches are already comparing to former Palm Beach County standout defensive linemen Vince Wilfork and Santonio Thomas.

Inside the classroom, Howell carries a 2.8 core GPA and has already taken the SAT. He's taking the ACT this Saturday. He also letters in track, where he throws the shot put and discus.

"My favorite schools right now are Miami, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, BYU, and Alabama," he said. He talked about the three major programs in Florida.

"Florida plays an attacking defense," he said. "Plus, they'll have some openings at defensive tackle next year. I also like Florida State. They have a lot of good young players and have a chance to be really good next year. Miami is perfect (laughing). They have everything. They produce great defensive linemen and they recruit players from around here, like Vince Wilfork and Santonio Thomas."

Howell plans on showcasing his skills at the NIKE Training Camp at Miami in April.
