Profile: In-State Tight End

The Hurricanes are alwasys looking for tight ends to run in their pro-style offense. Today we profile Cory Powers who will be a senior in 2005.

School: Auburndale (Polk County)

Size: 6-4 and 245

Speed: 4.8

Academics: Claims a 3.0 GPA and hasn't gotten test scores back yet

Age: 215 months

Junior Year: Powers plays a role where he's used mainly as a blocker. He's graded out at close to 90 percent over the last two seasons. Prior to his junior season, he was named to the MSL Combine Elite 22 Team for his performance at the camp in Gainesville.

College Choices: "Alabama, Louisville, Miami, Georgia, and Boston College," he said.

The skinny: It's never easy finding high quality tight ends in the state of Florida. For one, they're rare utilized in most passing games around the state. At 6-5 and 240 pounds, Powers is used almost as an extra blocker. However, he has the foot speed and athletic ability to play Division 1 football at the tight end position. He'll be one of the top prospects in Polk County this season.
