Player: defensive back Shannon Ballard
School: Miami (Fla.) Norland
Size: He measured in at 6-0 and 171 at a combine earlier this spring.
Speed: He turned in a 4.5/40 time at that same combine.
Academics: He claims to have a 2.8 GPA and has not yet reported a test score.
Age: 206 months
Junior Year: Ballard helped lead a very stingy Norland defense. He finished the season with 76 tackles, four fumble recoveries, and one interception.
College Choices: "Right now I'm loking Auburn, Miami, Florida State, and Oklahoma State," Ballard said.
Scholarship Offers: Oklahoma State
Other Sports: none
The skinny: One of the top returning defensive backs in Dade County, Ballard opened a lot of eyes with his play as a junior. He made a big impact on Norland's defense last season and proved he can be around the ball at all times making plays. He could project as a corner because of his size but he'll likely be a safety at the college level because of his ability to cover the field from the center field position. He'll enter the spring as one of the top DB prospects in Dade County.
