Junior Year: McCarthy was outstanding as a junior last season. He finished the season with 163 total tackles on defense (118 solo and 45 assists), including 13 for a loss. He added four sacks, five interceptions, two caused fumbles, and one defensive touchdown. While playing wide receiver, he hauled in 32 passes for 595 yards and eight scores. He was a first team All-State pick after the season.
College Choices: "FSU, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, Auburn," McCarthy said before listing several others. He remains wide open with regards to his favorites at this point.

The skinny: Coming off a dominating junior season that put his name on the recruiting map, McCarthy has a chance to emerge as a big time prospect this coming season. Thanks to tremendous football instincts, McCarthy was ultra productive as a junior last season. He is one of those players you can put at any position and know that he'll make big plays throughout the game at key moments. His best position at the college level will likely be linebacker because of his size, toughness, and instincts. He will enter the spring as one of the top linebacker prospects in the entire state.
