Wright Named Starter

Head coach Larry Coker announced that Kyle Wright will be the starting quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes in 2005 at a press conference held today.

Larry Coker's Opening Statement

"Obviously you know why we are here—to discuss the quarterback situations. Not a lot as changed from the standpoint that I like both of the players. I think we have two good players. I don't know if I have ever been around a program with two quality quarterbacks like we have here. Someone asked me if I was concerned that we only have two quarterbacks. I would be real concerned if we had five and couldn't find one."

"The situation with Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman, as I have said all along. Both are talented players and I think we can win with both quarterbacks. As far as naming a number one guy right now I would like to reserve that nod at this time to Kyle Wright."

"The next question is why? And from our standpoint Kyle is further along from having been here an additional year. His knowledge of the offense gives him a little bit of an edge. Both are outstanding leaders. I think both players will be extremely motivated this summer."

"Kyle knows he can't relax and Kirby knows he is going to pour the heat on. That is about as well said as it can be. I like their leadership qualities and not only are they well respected from the coaches, but also by their teammates. That is just as important to have."

"They are going to win a lot of football games at the University of Miami."
