Coral Gables Regional Announced

The Miami Hurricanes found out yesterday that they would be hosting a regional in the NCAA Tournament beginning on Friday. Today they found out their opponents.

The Miami Hurricanes (38-17-1) will face Virginia Commonwealth (33-20) on Friday in the opening round of the four-team regional in Coral Gables.

VCU earned an automatic bid for winning the CAA Tournament.

They are led by 2B Scott Sizemore (.372-12-56) and SP John Leonard (5-4, 4.18).

Mississippi State (40-20) was awarded the #2 seed in the Coral Gables Regional after winning the SEC Tournament for the sixth time in school history.

The Bulldogs are led by 3B Thomas Berkery (.320-7-54) and SP Todd Doolittle (5-7, 3.89).

MSU will face Florida Atlantic (36-22) in their opening round game also on Friday.

FAU is led by CF/P Mike McBryde (.377-5-39) who also leads the team with 10 saves and has a 3.12 ERA in 34.2 innings.

Mickey Storey leads the Owls pitching staff with a 1.77 ERA and a 9-1 record in 86.2 innings.

Times have not yet been determined for the double-elimination regional. The winner of the Coral Gables Regional will face the winner of the Lincoln Regional--Nebraska, N.C. State, Creigton, or Illinois-Chicago.
