LB/S Garnering Lots of Offers

A.J. Jones might not be your typical linebacker prospect.

By looking at him, you'd think he's a safety. At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Jones was a human highlight film as a junior last season and he was a major headache for opposing offenses.

While playing at nearly 175 pounds last season, Jones finished the regular season with 154 tackles in nine games.

"I just fly to the ball using my speed," Jones said. "I think I have an advantage when it comes to recognizing where the play's going and being able to get to the ball. I just love flying around and making plays."

Jones, who took the SAT for the first time on Saturday, is entering into his third season as a varsity starter. He'll line up at linebacker again this season. He's unsure of what position he'll play in college.

"Linebacker or safety -- it doesn't matter to me," he said. "Wherever I fit in best. Some coaches talk about one position and others talk about the other. I just wanna play."

It's the athleticism and production on the field that has college coaches flocking to see Jones.

"I've got over a dozen offers now," he said. "The ones I like the most are Florida, USC, and LSU. They're my top three. Florida is close to home. USC keeps on winning and LSU plays good defense all the time. I also like South Carolina, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Auburn. They've all offered me too. I also like Miami and Florida State but I haven't gotten the offer from them yet."

Jones said it's still early to give his true feelings on the Hurricanes.

"I gotta see if they're gonna offer," he said. "They have a great program and everything but I'm not too familiar with them right now."

Jones has already been to the Rutgers camp and he's unsure of his plans for the rest of the summer.
