Canes Host Wisconsin-Milwaukee

The University of Miami baseball team (11-11) hosts Wisconsin-Milwaukee (4-5) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Stadium. The game can be heard on the Internet at www.hurricanesports.com or on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM.

On the mound for the Hurricanes Wednesday night will be junior RHP Kiki Bengochea (1-4, 7.92 ERA). Offensively, Miami is led by senior All-American Javy Rodriguez' .415 batting average. Among his team leading 39 hits are a club-high 14-multiple hit outings.

Wednesday night marks the first meeting between Miami and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, out of the Horizon League. So far this season, Miami has played four "first meeting" games, going 2-2 with wins over Lipscomb and Kansas State and losses to Houston and Ball State. All-time, Miami is 155-36 in first meetings. Additionally, Miami has only met one other current Horizon League member, Illinois-Chicago, which it swept a pair of games with in Coral Gables in 1983 (5-3 and 17-3).

The Panthers enter the game with a 4-5 overall record, with a recent split of Monday games with Rider (W, 11-4) and Kansas State (L, 8-7) at the Homestead Challenge. UWM has gone 4-2 in games played in the Homestead Challenge this season. They began play at the Challenge with three straight wins over Radford (2-0), Chicago State (10-9) and Cornell (9-8), before falling to Rider (6-5) this past Sunday.

The Hurricanes play UCLA in a three-game series, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, at Mark Light Stadium with each game starting at 7 p.m. All three games will be available on the student voice of the Hurricanes, WVUM 90.5 FM, and on the Internet at www.hurricanesports.com. Additionally, the Sunday night game will be televised on Fox Sports Net Florida and also available on Sports Radio 560 WQAM and in Spanish on the WACC 830 AM Radio Paz.

The first 2,500 fans in attendance for Saturday night's UCLA game at Mark Light Stadium will receive a limited edition Jim Morris Championship Bobblehead Doll, presented by OleoMed.

Northwestern Added to 2002 Schedule

A game against Northwestern University has been added to the 2002 University of Miami baseball schedule for Tuesday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at Mark Light Stadium.

Ticket prices for the game will be $9 chairback, $7 Adult general admission and $5 youth/seniors general admission.

Miami and Northwestern have met once before, with the Hurricanes defeating the Wildcats, 4-2, on March 22, 2000 at Mark Light Stadium.
