Eric Winston Q&A

Offensive tackle Eric Winston is back from injury and ready to play. He is one of four senior offensive lineman expected to start this season. Winston talks about the team after the first day of practices.

Do you guys consider last season a lost season because you finished 9-3?

At most places nine wins is pretty good. But for us it was a losing season and that is the way we look at it. It won't be that this year and nothing less than a BCS game and an undefeated season would be a disappointment for us.

Why are you wearing two knee braces in practice, is it just for insurance?

Yeah. I just didn't want to wear just one because I didn't know what it would do to my balance. If something happens where I feel it is slowing me down too much, then I will take them off. I just want to try them out and see how I like them.

Was it exciting being back out on the field?

It was awesome. It was kind of how I remembered it. When I was out there I felt that I had not really been gone, which was nice. Being around the guys was the best part.

Are you planning on participating in all drills this fall?

They are going to have to pull me out kicking and screaming if they want me off the field. I am in it for the long haul. I am in it to participate in every drill and every practice. If they don't want me to do that, then maybe we can talk about it.

What was the team's reaction to getting back on the field?

It is always fun to be back out there. It is exciting to see how everyone else is going to be out there and how good you are going to be. I am just pretty excited with some of the guys we have.

What were the guys thinking about cutting practice short?

We might joke about having a day off, but honestly we want to be out there. We want to be out there working. You don't work this hard and not want to be out there.

How do you think Kyle Wright will do against Florida State?

It is the same for any of our quarterbacks. Florida State is a different game. You could play in 11 games and not really know what you are in for. Hopefully he will get acclimated quick and make a couple big plays. He'll be fine. He has a lot of guys around him who have played in a lot of games and a lot of games against Florida State. He doesn't have to make the plays. He just has to get the guys the ball and we'll do the rest.

What is like playing against Florida State?

I think year in and year out it has the most future NFL players on the field in a game. The talent and speed is there. It is an overall fun game and a great thing to be a part of. It is a nationally televised game, which is a bit rare these days. You know you will be seen by everyone. I remember watching the game when I was a kid and I didn't even like either school.
