WR Likes UM's Direction

Sam Shields grew up rooting for Florida State. He always enjoyed watching the Noles win, especially against their arch rivals. Now that he's a top recruiting prospect, things are starting to change. He spent Monday in Tallahassee watching the big game between Miami and FSU.

"I had a good time there," Shields said. "I made it back for practice today just in time. It was a good atmosphere and everything and both teams played hard."

Sam Shields, who went as an unofficial visitor for the Noles since the game was played at their stadium, gave his analysis of the game.

"Miami's defense looks straight but the offense needs to get things going," he said. "The offense looked kinda boring to me. Kyle (Wright) looked alright. The O-Line and the receivers need to step up."

Shields, who touched the ball 5 times in his game Friday night for a total of 180 yards and three touchdowns, said he had a chance to go into the FSU locker room after the game.

"I was talking to some of those guys," he said. "Fred Rouse was talking junk about Miami and saying I should be coming there instead."

The talented receiver got back in Sarasota on Tuesday afternoon and was greeted at practice by UM receivers coach Curtis Johnson.

"Everything's still straight with Miami," he said. "That's still where I wanna go. I grew up cheering for FSU but now I gotta make a business decision. I have to go where I feel I'll be most successful. Miami puts guys into the pros. Kyle looks like he's gonna be a real good one and they're gonna have some holes to fill at receiver."

Shields has a visit scheduled to LSU for the 24th of this month but may have to re-schedule since he plans on taking the ACT that day. He's also looking into setting up some other visits.

"Besides LSU, I wanna check out Michigan, Pittsburgh, and USC," he said. "And of course Miami."
