Local DB Hoping For UM Offer

DeAndre Morgan was switched to free safety at the start of the season. The Riviera Beach (Fla.) Suncoast star says that was a move made because of his experience.

"Since I'm the most experienced player in our secondary, they wanted me at free safety so I could cover more of the field," Morgan said. "I'll still play corner at the next level though."

DeAndre Morgan, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, is having a solid senior season but it's teammate Damien Berry who is making the most plays. Morgan talked about his junior teammate.

"Damien, that's my boy," he said. "He's such a great player out there. He works hard. I think he'll be the top player in the state of Florida next year. If he's not, I'd like to see who is."

Morgan, a full academic qualifier, has been enjoying the recruiting process so far this season. He's already set up a couple of his official visits.

"I got Ole Miss set up for the 21st of October," he said. "Wake Forest is scheduled for January 7th. I'm trying to set something up with N.C. State, too. It may be for the 24th of this month because that's when they want me and (PB Gardens running back/linebacker) Emmanuel Cook to come up."

The talented defender claims offers from all three programs but he's hoping for them from the Big 3 in Florida.

"I gotta save room for the Florida schools," he said. "They haven't offered yet but they're all still keeping in touch. They probably just wanna see more of my senior season."

Morgan, who spent 3 days at UM's summer camp back in June, said if the Big 3 don't come through then he'll probably schedule visits to two other programs who have offered.

"If things don't work out with those guys then I'll probably visit West Virginia and probably Clemson," he said.

Morgan spoke about the UM/FSU game that took place last week.

"The offenses struggled and the defenses were solid," he said. "That's a big game for both teams and Florida State was able to break the streak. I'm sure Miami will bounce back. They won't be down for long."
