Canes Going Neck and Neck For OL

Jason Fox began the summer looking forward to his senior season as a tight end at Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley H.S. At one point during the summer, Fox agreed to switch to the offensive line. Now playing left tackle and defensive end, the 6-6, 260-pound Fox is enjoying things.

"This season has been going really well," Fox said. "We're 3-0 and I've been playing real well on both sides of the ball. I have three or four sacks on defense and I've really adjusted well to playing tackle. I haven't allowed any sacks or anything like that yet."

Jason Fox, a full academic qualifier, had pretty much narrowed his college choices down to Texas A&M and Miami during the summer. While others are still calling and may still get visits, those two are still the main two.

"I told a lot of people that I would probably be ready to make a final decision sometime early in the season," he said. "It's kinda dragging on now though. Hopefully it'll be before too long. It's real close between them right now, moreso than I kinda expected. Both are really good programs and it's so hard to choose one over the other."

Fox, who has written offers from both programs, has been watching the two teams closely so far this season.

"A&M lost a tough game against Clemson but they came back and beat up on SMU," he said. "I watched the Florida State/Miami game a few weeks ago and the Clemson game wasn't televised here last week. I was on the phone with my uncle for pretty much the entire game because he was watching it."

The talented lineman talked about some of the problems UM has been having on its offensive line.

"They've been giving up some sacks but they're playing hard and they got a lot better in the Clemson game," he said. "They looked real good running the ball. They just need some more time to gel. Some of those guys are new together and it takes a couple games to really get things going."

Fox says both programs have an equal chance at this point.

"It's neck and neck right now," he said. "I may need to take some visits to really find out for sure. It's a really difficult decision. Texas A&M is close but Miami's such a great program."

He's getting star treatment from both coaching staffs as well.

"Coach Coker called yesterday and I talked to him for a little bit," he said. "I talked to Coach Fran tonight. They're both real nice people."
