Schools Coming After UM Commitment

Josh Holmes made a summer commitment to the University of Miami. The Hurricanes offered him early and since it was a childhood dream of his, he ended the process early. He's now enjoying his senior season.

"We're 6-0 right now and we're trying to finish 10-0 and be the top ranked team going into the playoffs," Holmes said. "I've been playing great. I'm going both ways. At tight end, I have two touchdowns of 10 and 15 yards. At defensive tackle, I have about 40 tackles, three sacks, and four caused fumbles. Plus, I have a 35-yard touchdown on defense. Things are going well."

Josh Holmes, who carries a 3.5 GPA and an 800 SAT score, is also focusing on bringing that test score up some.

"I re-took it on the 8th but I'm still waiting for my results," he said. "It won't be a problem. I plan to score a lot higher. I'll keep taking it if I have to."

The talented defender, who plans on playing basketball after the season, talked about what makes him different on the field.

"I think it's my get off the ball speed," he said. "I use my moves a lot. I have good upper body strength. I have good coaches and everything here but I learned most of the stuff I do from my brother, who plays at Cal-Lutheran."

On the recruiting front, Holmes remains committed to Miami but that hasn't stopped other schools from recruiting him.

"I'm still a Hurricane," he said. "That's where I plan to be next fall. But I still get calls from other schools. Out of respect, I talk to them about things but I make sure that I tell them that I'm still committed to Miami. The most recent ones are from Washington State and Fresno State."

Holmes, who spoke to UM head coach Larry Coker last week, still hasn't heard anything from the Trojans.

"Nothing from USC," he said. "I'm not sure why. That's OK because I'm committed to a great program."

The talented senior has kept a close eye on the Hurricanes so far this season and talked about it.

"They're doing great," he said. "The FSU game was a tough one but they bounced back. They're playing great on defense and the offense is starting to get on track. I think they're gonna have a great year."

Holmes is scheduled to visit Miami on December 16.
