DT Keeping Close Eye on UM

Kenrick Ellis and his Lake Worth (Fla.) John I. Leonard teammates raced off to a 5-0 start this season and the playoff picture was looking good. However, they've lost their last three games and things don't look as bright.

"We got off to a great start," Ellis said. "I'm not sure what happened. We just weren't able to score many points the last few games. It's frustrating the way things have gone since this is my senior year and everything."

Kenrick Ellis, 6-5 and 330 pounds, has drawn constant double and triple teams throughout the entire season.

"Nothing ever changes," he said. "I just learned to deal with it. It helped free up some other guys. Markus White's having a great year. We just need to play together well as a team to finish up."

Ellis, who is spending lots of time focusing on his academic situation, hasn't really thought a whole lot about the recruiting process yet.

"I still get all the calls and everything but I haven't set anything up as far as visits or anything like that," he said. "I've just been really busy. The Florida schools are there, Tennessee, LSU, Michigan State, those are some of them."

Ellis still gets weekly calls from the UM coaches but the Canes have not yet come through with an offer.

"They've been recruiting me from the beginning," he said. "I'm pretty sure that if I take my visits and realize that Miami's where I wanna go then I'll have a scholarship there waiting."

Ellis said he's been impressed with the way the Hurricanes have been playing this season -- especially on defense.

"They've been great on that side," he said. "They're playing a lot of guys and the players look like they're having a lot of fun. It looks like a good situation to be in."

Ellis is still not ready to name a favorite just yet though. He plans on taking all of his visits before making a decision.

"I'll take my visits after the season and then sit down and figure out what the best situation for me is going to be," he said. "I'll probably start (taking visits) sometime in December."
