Recruiting Update: Dan Lane

At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Dan Lane is among the state's top tight end prospects and he's been busy proving it lately.

At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Parkland (Fla) Douglas tight end Dan Lane has been turning heads this entire spring. It began with an impressive performance at the NIKE Camp, followed by a strong showing at a combine held in Boca Raton two weeks ago. And now, he's enjoying a strong spring.

With 4.75 speed, Lane carries a 3.5 GPA inside the classroom. He also bench presses 280 pounds.

Although he was primarily used as a blocking tight end last season with just seven catches and one touchdown, Lane has the necessary athletic ability to be a legitimate Division 1 tight end prospect.

Lane, who doubles as a defensive end and will camp at Down & Dirty in Lakeland this summer, mentioned on a questionnaire that his early favorites are Miami, Notre Dame, UCLA, Penn State, and Ohio State. He has not yet received any scholarship offers.

Personally, I watched Lane at the NIKE Camp and felt he was a mid level Division 1 prospect. However, he's enjoying a tremendous spring and is gaining more and more attention. I think he's a kid UM could recruit early on, although he's not a candidate to get offered until after the season. Remember the name, though.
