Eyes on the Prize

Graig Cooper and his Memphis (Tenn) Melrose teammates are chasing a state championship. The big game will be played on Saturday. Cooper, who has rushed for 1,973 yards and 30 touchdowns so far this season, is excited.

"This is what we've been waiting for," Cooper said. "It's time to get it on. I can't wait. We've had a good year and now it's time to finish it out."

Graig Cooper, 5-10 and 185 pounds, has emerged as one of the top running back prospects in the East region this year. He's enjoying the recruiting process as well.

"After the season, I'll really start to focus in on that," he said. "I'll take my visits then and really start to narrow it down and figure out where I'm gonna be most comfortable."

The talented senior has a few of those visits already scheduled. He goes to Ole Miss on Dec. 9, Miami on Dec. 16 and Oklahoma State on Jan. 13.

"I'm also gonna check out Tennessee in January," he said. "I haven't figured out the last one yet -- maybe Nebraska or Clemson or Memphis."

Cooper's not ready to single out any favorites. He did talk more about the Hurricanes.

"I love it in Miami," he said. "The Canes produce. Look at all the great running backs that have come through there. I've already been there but I'm sure I'll see a lot more on my visit that I didn't already know."

The talented running back is hoping to finish strong this weekend and then enjoy the rest of the recruiting process.

"I'll probably take at least four of those visits," he said. "Then if I need a fifth one, I'll take it in late January. Right now, I'm still trying to focus on winning out. It'll probably come down t just where I feel most comfortable and where I'll get a chance to be the most successful."
