Local DB Makes Commitment

Chavez Grant has been favoring the University of Miami for most of his senior year. The talented cornerback from Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington took his official visit to UM over the weekend and decided to make a commitment to the Hurricanes.

"I just felt like Miami was the best place for me," Grant said. "It's the U, what more can you ask for. They're right down the road so my family will be able to watch me play. They put a lot of guys into the league and they've been recruiting me hard since the beginning of the year."

Chavez Grant, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, picked the Hurricanes over Georgia, Ole Miss, and South Carolina.

"Ole Miss was an excellent visit," he said. "I had a lot of fun there and really got to see some new things. They're a good program that is going in the right direction. Georgia was excellent. They're already established and they just need to continue recruiting good players. Miami, though, it just has everything I'm looking for."

Grant, a full academic qualifier, was impressed with his visit over the weekend.

"It just showed me what it's like being there apart of the team," he said. "The way they are off the field, the way they practice, it just seems like a good fit to me."

The talented cornerback prospect is excited about coming in and getting a chance to play early.

"They're losing both starters," he said. "I feel like I can go in and compete right away. I'm all about competition but this looks like a good opportunity early. It's just a good situation for me."
