Canes Announce New Football Series

University of Miami Director of Athletics Paul Dee today announced that the Hurricanes football team will play series with Central Florida and Marshall in the near future. The Hurricanes and UCF have agreed on a three-game series with games in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Miami and Marshall have agreed on a three-game series with games in 2007, 2011 and 2012.

Both Marshall and UCF are members of the Mid-American Conference. Marshall has been a member of the league since 1997 while UCF will be in its first year of MAC football in 2002. The Hurricanes are 5-0 all-time against members of the MAC. Miami last played a MAC opponent in 1987, defeating Toledo (24-14) and Miami of Ohio (54-3) during that National Championship season.

The Miami vs. Central Florida Series The Hurricanes will face UCF in Miami on September 6, 2008. UM will visit Orlando on October 3, 2009. The series concludes in Miami on September 25, 2010.

The Hurricanes and Golden Knights have never met in football. UCF will begin its first year of play in the Mid-American Conference this fall after having competed as an independent since the formation of the program in 1979.

"We're proud to announce this series with Central Florida," Dee said. "The series will give us an opportunity to play what we feel is a solid program while allowing us to play a game in the Orlando area, where we have so many loyal fans."

The Miami vs. Marshall Series
The Hurricanes and the Thundering Herd of Marshall will be meeting for the first time in football when the teams face off in Miami on September 1, 2007. Miami will travel to Huntington to take on Marshall four years later, on September 10, 2011. The series ends with a matchup in Miami on September 22, 2012.

Marshall currently holds an all-time record of 3-10 against current members of the Big East Conference, and is 1-1 against schools from that league since the league's formation in 1991.

"Our agreement with Marshall adds another quality non-conference opponent to our long-term schedule," Dee said. "Marshall has consistently competed at a high level nationally. It should be an intriguing series that has some national appeal."
