"Man, I'm going to Miami, it's all good," Figueroa said. "I committed. It's done. I'm going to Miami I sign February 1 and I'll start school in August."
Figueroa, 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, had previously committed to Rutgers and also took a visit to South Florida before picking the Hurricanes.
"Rutgers aint too happy but oh well," he said. "It kinda started to change when Miami offered me a visit. Even though they really hadn't offered me a scholarship at that time, I kinda knew they werent bringing me in for a visit this late without that on their mind."
The talented lineman committed to UM head coach Larry Coker.
"He's a good man," he said. "I had a couple good talks with him. He's excited about me being part of the program and the future they have there."
Figueroa, who said he doesn't know which line position he'll play at UM, spoke more about the visit.
"Spencer Adkins was my host," he said. "He did a good job. He's pretty big. We saw the facilities, went to a basketball game, and hung out with the players. It was fun."
Figueroa was a 2nd team All-County selection this season but says it wasn't until the Dade/Broward All-Star game that interest from UM picked up.
"They were at the game and I played really good so I guess they wanted me then," he said. "I'm happy. It's UM. It's close to home and the future is good. Everything's gonna be big."
The talented senior has one hurdle left -- the SAT next Saturday.
"I'm taking it next weekend -- hopefully for the last time," he said. "I'm close and I'll be straight."
