Franklin Close to Decision

Orlando Franklin moved to Florida as a junior and began playing football for Atlantic High at the start of his senior season. He wasn't sure how it would turn out.

"I knew I could play but I didn't have any idea what recruiting would be like," Franklin said. "It turns out, it's been great with all the visits and everything. Sometimes all the phone calls can make it rough but it'll all be over on Wednesday."

After taking visits to Louisville, Minnesota, Florida, and Florida State, the talented big man made the trip to UM over the weekend.

"It was good," he said. "It was a very, very good visit. I was familiar with UM but the visit shows you something different. Tavares Gooden, my host, was great. The players, they're all real cool and I thought I fit in pretty well."

Franklin, 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, was asked about the differences he saw in all the programs he visited.

"The Florida schools are right here and this is where I wanna play," he said. "It's out of Florida State, Florida, or Miami. They were all good visits. They all were the same in a way but they were different too."

The talented big man met with UM coach Larry Coker before leaving today.

"He's a good guy," he said. "He's real straight up with you. I really like him and Coach Cristobal."

Franklin didn't give any indication as to what he might do on Wednesday.

"I don't know yet," he said. "It's a very hard choice and it's something I'll be thinking about a lot until then. I feel like I can't go wrong with any of them. We have something set up around 9:30 on Wedneday morning when the press is coming by so we'll do it then."

Franklin was asked about teammate Preston Parker as well.

"He had a good time too," he said. "He likes Miami but he hasn't made his decision yet."
