6 Canes Earn Preseason AA Honors

Six University of Miami Hurricanes football players are mentioned as either first- or second-team All-America selections by The Sporting News magazine in its upcoming 2002 College Football preseason magazine. The magazine ranks the defending national champion Hurricanes fourth in its preseason rankings behind Oklahoma, Florida State and Texas.

Four Hurricanes - junior wide receiver Andre Johnson, senior defensive end Jerome McDougle, senior defensive tackle William Joseph and punter Freddie Capshaw - are first-team honorees. Two others - senior center Brett Romberg and senior quarterback Ken Dorsey - are on TSN's Preseason Second Team.

Miami's schedule includes three teams ranked in the top 10 of TSN's Preseason Top 25 - Florida State (No. 2), Tennessee (No. 7) and Florida (No. 8). The Hurricanes open the 2002 football season on Saturday, Aug. 31, against Florida A&M. Tickets are on sale now. Fans may call 1-800-GO-CANES to speak with a ticket representative.
