DB Will Attend UM Jr. Day

DeMarcus Van Dyke is looking forward to the Scout.com Combine in Jacksonville on March 19. He's ready for round two against Glades Central receiver Deonte Thompson.

"They ended our season in the playoffs," Van Dyke said. "He's a great player and I know he has a lot of speed and a lot of people are talking about him. I stuck him, though. He only had one catch against me."

DeMarcus Van Dyke, 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds, is coming off a tremendous season. The junior from Miami (Fla.) Pace had 30 tackles and three picks, despite rarely being thrown on.

"Not too many people tried me," he said. "I have speed and I know how to react to the ball better than most other corners. I'm watching the little things, like the quarterback's drops."

The talented cornerback, who will be among the state's fastest recruits in 2006, will be among the top prospects in Florida at his position.

"Recruiting's going good so far in the beginning," he said. "I don't have any offers yet but lots of people are sending personal mail and stuff like that. I'm getting invited to a lot of things. I'm really wide open right now. I won't really start naming favorites until I see who's gonna offer."

One of the schools that will be keeping a close eye on Van Dyke this spring is the University of Miami.

"UM's a great school," he said. "I like them a lot. I really like their prestige. I like the environment. I like the players, the coaching staff. UM is a great place to be. They invited me to their Junior Day and I'll be there (this Saturday) to check things out."
