Local Star Likes UM

Travaris Cadet played wide receiver a lot during his Little League playing days. Ever since he's been at Miami Central High, however, he's been playing primarily quarterback.

"I got moved up my freshman year," Cadet said. "I played behind Deno (Dennis Brown) my 10th grade year and then was the starter last year. I got better as the season went along. My game against Killian is what put me on the map."

Travaris Cadet, 6-feet and 195 pounds, finished the season with 899 yards passing and four touchdowns. He also added 109 yards and two touchdowns rushing. While many wonder what position he'll play in college, Cadet spoke about his style.

"I'm a complete quarterback," he said. "These days you need to be able to beat teams with your legs too. I can do that. I can also read defenses very well and throw on them. I'm watching film every day trying to improve in that area."

The talented junior has already picked up one offer as a quarterback.

"Virginia Tech offered me as a QB," he said. "If I want to play quarterback in college, which I do, they'd probably be my top choice since they're my only offer. Florida State and Tennessee are also recruiting me as a quarterback."

Many other schools, however, are recruiting Cadet at another position.

"UM, Florida, and NC State want me as an athlete," he said. "UM said they wanna try me at receiver or DB first. I'm OK with that. I've gotten (hand-written letters) from Larry Coker. UM's close to home and they put guys into the League. If I decide I wanna play another position in college, UM looks real nice to me."

Cadet, who will start running track this weekend after a hamstring pull has limited his action lately, plans on attending the Scout.com All-American Combine at FAU on May 13.
