QB Likes UM's Atmosphere

After throwing for over 1,000 yards in the first six games of his freshman year, Alton Voss was ready to get promoted to the varsity team.

However, a broken arm put an end to that and his freshman season. He bounced back strong and became a starter his sophomore season and followed up with a junior year that put his name on the recruiting map.

Alton Voss, 6-foot-3 and 212 pounds, finished last season with 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns passing while also putting up 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

"It was a good year for us," Voss said. "My best receiver, Shawn Williamson, missed some of the season and me and him were really clicking."

The New Port Richey (Fla.) Gulf star talked about what separates him from a lot of other quarterbacks.

"You look around and most guys are pro style quarterbacks," he said. "Me, I can run and pass and do both very well."

Voss, who plans on attending the Scout.com All-American Combine at in Boca Raton on May 13, has one written offer so far.

"I got an offer from South Florida," he said. "I met with Coach Leavitt. It was kinda funny. My coach was telling me what he'd say and stuff like that and the whole time I was laughing in my head because it's pretty much what he did say. He's a great guy and I'm interested in them."

The talented quarterback is getting hand-written mail from a lot of major college programs as well.

"Based on who's recruiting me, my early favorites are N.C. State, Alabama, Auburn, West Virginia, and Miami. I also get hand-written mail from Florida but they just signed Tim Tebow so I dont know about them right now."

Voss talked more about his interest in the Hurricanes and vice-versa.

"Miami has always been my favorite," he said. "Coach Berry writes me letters. The last one said how it was sunny and 80 degrees and he asked what it's like at the other schools I'm looking at. It was spring break and he said he's already at the best spring break spot. He's real cool, just keeping in touch."

The rising senior has been at UM before on an unofficial visit. He was impressed.

"When I went, I loved the atmosphere," he said. "Everyone's in it for the same reason and that's to compete and win. I love the pressure of being in the spotlight and I can see a lot of their players are the same way."
