Killian Star Favors UM

Alphonso Bruton missed part of his junior season because of injuries but the talented Miami Killian star has all the tools to develop into one of the state's top safety prospects.

"I'm good at reading the quarterback and knowing what he's going to do," Alphonso Bruton said. "Plus, I'm a big hitter."

At 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, Bruton will have a lot of college coaches watching him closely this spring.

"Nobody's offered yet but I've been talking to some coaches," he said. "I get text messages and e-mails and handwritten letters from Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, and UM. Those would be my top choices. UM's my favorite."

The talented safety prospect spoke about what he likes about the hometown Hurricanes.

"I just really like the feel of things there," he said. "I'd like to stay here (in Miami) and the majority of people around here wanna go to UM and be the next star. If you play defensive back at UM, you're almost a lock to play in the NFL. I went to their Junior Day and saw all the NFL people there."

It's not just Bruton who is interested. The feelings appear to be somewhat mutual at this point.

"I've gotten a few text messages and stuff from Coach (Tim) Walton," he said. "UM's at the top right now."

Bruton plans on attending the All-American Combine at FAU on May 13.
