DB Gets Call From UM

LaTravis Washington, 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, is being heavily recruited both as a quarterback and as a strong safety. He is coming off a strong spring, despite getting blown out in his team's spring game.

"I had a good spring," Washington said. "I got a lot of practice time in and everything but we got blasted by Booker in the spring game. We still have some work to do."

LaTravis Washington already has a top five.

"I can give you a top five," he said. "It's Nebraska, Michigan, Auburn, LSU, and Maryland. Nebraska, LSU, and Michigan want me to play strong (safety) but Auburn and Maryland want me to play Q."

Washington, who plans on attending Nebraska's summer camp next month, has also gotten several calls -- many of whom have also offered.

"I've also gotten a call from Marshall, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, UConn, South Carolina, South Florida, Florida, Miami, Florida State, UCLA, and Ohio State," he said. "Ohio State offered me as a quarterback recently. They said I remind them of Troy Smith."

After naming Nebraska first and camping there next month, Washington was asked for his thoughts on the Huskers.

"They're one of my top schools," he said. "My cousin went there and when I went out there last summer, it felt like home. I really feel comfortable out there."

Washington says he heard from UM assistant coach Todd Berry.

"Miami's quarterback coach came by and I talked to him on the phone," he said. "He was saying that he knows I'd probably like to play quarterback but they're recruiting me as a safety. They haven't offered me yet though. Miami's a great school and everything but I wanna leave Florida since I've lived here all my life."
