CWS Scouting Report: Oregon State

OMAHA, Neb. -- Oregon State has a number of talented players on their roster including RHP Dallas Buck, OF Cole Gillespie, and LHP Kevin Gunderson. The Beavers are making their 3rd trip to the College World Series and are 0-4 in the previous two trips.

BEST HITTER

LF Cole Gillespie
3rd round draft pick, Milwaukee

Gillepsie, a 1st team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, leads the team in virtually all offensive statistics--runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, walks, on-base percentage, and stolen bases. And he's not letting up. He has hit an amazing .524 through the NCAA tournament so far and has a current 16-game hitting streak going.

CF Tyler Graham
19th round draft pick, San Francisco

Graham is even hotter than Gillespie as of late. He is hitting .579 throughout the NCAA tournament. Graham was selected Pacific-10 fastest runner by Baseball America in preseason however has stolen only nine bases this year.

SS Darwin Barney

Barney came into the season with a reputation. He was selected as a Freshman All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2005. He is hitting .333 for the season with 14 stolen bases. However Barney has not been so hot as of late hitting .208 (5-of-24), but has received an invitation to the 2006 USA Baseball National Team Trials.

1B Bill Rowe

Rowe leads the Bears with 10 RBIs during the NCAA tournament. He is hitting .332 on the season with 5 home runs and 48 RBIs.

C Mitch Canham
41st round draft pick, St. Louis

Canham is hitting .294 with 7 home runs and 50 RBI's on the season. His NCAA tournament hasn't been quite as good batting only .222 (4-of-18), however has managed to obtain 7 RBIs on those hits.

STARTING PITCHER

RHP Dallas Buck
3rd round draft pick, Arizona

Buck (12-2, 3.03 ERA)leads the staff in innings pitched with 115.2 on the season. He tallied up 88 strike outs which was enough to be named 2nd team All-America. His control could be an issue, hitting 21 batters on the season however his opponents only combined for a .207 batting average.

IN THE BULLPEN

LHP Kevin Gunderson
5th round draft pick, Atlanta

Gunderson (2-2, 2.34 ERA, 17 saves) has faced 151 batters in 32 appearances with an opponent average of .205. Gunderson faced 11 batters in the NCAA tournament and only surrendered 1 hit, with an opponent average of .094.

RHP Eddie Kunz

Kunz (5-1, 2.95 ERA) has appeared in 25 games on the season. His opponents are hitting .231 and has yet to give up a home run facing 147 batters. Kunz has faced 15 batters in the post-season and has allowed just 1 hit.
