Weems Receives Call From Nebraska

Kyle Weems, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward for KC Pump 'N Run, received a call earlier tonight from Nebraska. Weems already holds an offer from Missouri State and is open in his recruitment. He will be playing in the Super 64 in Las Vegas this weekend.

Kyle Weems talked with Nebraska assistant coach Doug Novsek for 35 minutes on the phone tonight.

"They said they are real interested in me," Weems said. "They saw me a couple times and their head coach (Barry Collier) is planning on watching me in Las Vegas."

Weems is excited about Nebraska's interest.

"That's the Big XII, yes I am real interested," Weems said.

Last week Illinois State head coach Porter Moser visited Highland Park High School (Kan.) to watch Weems workout.

Santa Clara has been recruiting Weems since last year and is still interested in him.

Missouri State has offered Weems and his high school teammate Lamont Austin, who also plays for Pump 'N Run.

Indiana State, which features a former Topeka, Kan. product, is also recruiting Weems who plans on signing early in Novemeber.

This summer has been hectic for Weems and KC Pump 'N Run.

"It's been going good," he said. "I've been getting some attention and I think I have been playing pretty good ball. I'm trying to keep getting up the Division I ladder and keep being consistent."

Weems, who carries a 3.6 GPA and is an NCAA qualifier, gets up and down the court very well and can shoot the ball.

"Heading into this summer I wanted to rebound a lot more and prove that I could guard perimerter players and bigs in the post," Weems said. "I think I have done both of those."

As a junior at Highland Park HS, Weems helped lead his team to a 21-4 record and a class 5A runner-up finish.

"Our expecations are high this year, but expectations are high every year with Highland Park basketball."
