WR Hoping For UM Offer

James Kirkendoll is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the state of Texas.

At 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, he ran one of the fastest 40 times on the entire Scout.com All-American Combine Tour this year ( 4.38 ) . He's currently at an AAU basketball (averaged 25 a game as a junior) event in Las Vegas but his father, Maurice, talked about the latest.

"Basically, his top three are Florida, Miami, and Oklahoma," his father said. "He loves it in Florida because of the style and the athletes down there."

James Kirkendoll took an unofficial visit to UM back in March for their Junior Day event and was invited to attend Florida's Friday Night Lights Camp last week.

"He loved it down at Miami," he said. "We met Coach Coker, sat in Coach (Mosley's) office. Miami was real impressive. Florida's on the verge of offering him and wanted to see him at the camp but he had a free trip to Vegas that he had already committed to."

The Sooners are also in the running but they're currently behind the two Florida schools at this point.

"They were one of the first schools to offer him back in March," he said. "He likes them a lot. If you look around, they're number one in a lot of preseason polls and that's something that jumps out at you."

One of his most recent offers came from Charlie Weis and Notre Dame.

"Their offensive coordinator used to be at Texas so he knew about James from his sophomore year," he said. "After James went up there and worked out, Coach Weis loved him and sent the offer right after we got back."

According to his father, Kirkendoll is up to between 15 and 17 written offers. His two favorites haven't yet.

"Coach Mosley texts him from time to time," he said. "The fact that they haven't offered him tells me they're waiting to see what some other kids do first. They met him, saw his film, and I'm not sure what they're waiting for. Maybe the first two or three games will convince them."

Kirkendoll, per his father, plans on taking his visits and ideally will announce his decision after the year.

"If he makes it to the All-American Game, he'd like to announce it then," he said.
