Super DE Loves UM

It seems like the state of Texas – like Florida – is loaded with major defensive line prospects this year. Could the Canes be dipping into Texas for yet another prospect? This prospect talks about Miami in this interview and explains why they are in his top five currently.

One of the best defensive line prospects in Texas is Sugar Land (Dulles) standout Tim Washington.

Although he hasn't attended any summer camps because of his job working at a local seafood restaurant, Washington has attended a combine at the University of Houston recently. He checked in at 6-foot-4 and 237 pounds, while running a 4.77 on turf.

The standout defensive end had a tough time getting started with football.

"I couldn't play Little League because of my size," he said. "Then when I was able to play, they told me I was too old when I really wasn't. After eighth grade is when I started taking it seriously. I started off as a tight end and I also punt. I've been our starting punter since my sophomore year."

Washington, who is only 10 points shy on the SAT of becoming a full academic qualifier, also competes in track (throws the discus 170 feet) and basketball (center and forward). That superb athletic ability is another major reason why Washington – who finished last season with 13 sacks – is being recruited nationally.

"Pretty much everyone that called me in the spring has sent me an offer," he said. "I have around 30 of them now. They include Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, Colorado, UT, Miami, and Florida State."

The talented defensive end said while he's trying to stay more focused on his senior season as opposed to the recruiting process, he does have some schools in mind that he'd like to take official visits to.

"I'm interested in checking out Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Miami," he said. "But I'm still wide open and won't know much until after I take my visits."

With Texas cleaning house on most of the top in-state prospects in that state, one might wonder what are the chances of this talented defensive end leaving.

"Mack Brown is definitely getting everyone he wants," he said. "People don't know how many players they have. But I want to leave Texas. I just don't know where to right now."

One of the places Washington said he's considering is the University of Miami.

"I love Miami," he said. "If I have a chance to take a trip out there, I'd definitely like to go check things out and see what Miami's about. They're pretty high on my list – in the top five."

The super defensive end prospect talked about his goals for this coming season. "I want to bust my butt on every single play," he said. "Teams are always trying to cut me and double team me on every play and it's frustrating so I want to be able to go all out every play."
