Edwin Rios, the 12th ranked point guard in the country, and Freddy Asprilla, the 20th ranked center in the country, did not have their best games as the Miami Tropics lost 58-31 to the Howard Pulley Panthers eliminating them from the tournament yesterday morning.
Rios never got on track with his outside shot as he was 1-for-7 from behind the 3-point line as the Panthers primarily played a zone defense.
He finished with 9 points on 2-for-11 shooting and 4-for-6 from the free throw line. He added three rebounds and one assist.
Five of his first six shots were 3-pointers before he decided to penetrate to create opportunities.
Asprilla, a 6-foot-10, 260-pound center, was a non-factor in the game. He had a hard time getting his shots off early in the game and finished with 3 points on 1-of-4 shooting. After making his first free-throw attempt of the game, he missed his final six. He added six rebounds.
The Tropics trailed 31-13 at halftime.
