UM Recruiting Midwest DE Prospect

The University of Miami's search for out-of-state defensive end prospects has taken them everywhere from New Jersey to California. This prospect comes from somewhere in between.

St. Paul (Minn.) Saint Thomas Academy standout Chris Moore measured at 6-foot-6 and 238 pounds at the recent Notre Dame summer camp, Moore ran a 4.90/40 and is a full academic qualifier (3.2, 1040).

As a junior last season, Moore finished the year with 55 tackles and seven sacks as a defensive end. However, he hasn't always played on defense.

"I always used to play center, guard, and tackle," Moore said. "I've played pretty much everything along both lines. But since I was always bigger than most kids, I usually played offensive line. I was like 5-foot-7 in 6th grade."

The talented defensive end is also on the varsity track team, where he throws the shot put (38 feet) and discus (132 feet). He also talked about the recruiting process.

"I talked to a lot of different coaches during spring," he said. "I just talked to Duke the other day and they offered me. I also spoke to Northwestern, Miami of Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa, Toledo, and Notre Dame. Just Duke has offered so far, but a lot of others said they're very interested and will be watching my senior season to see how I develop."

Widely considered one of the top defensive end prospects in the Midwest Region, Moore said he is very wide open at this point.

"The only school that I know I'll visit right now is Duke," he said. "They've given me an opportunity so I'll definitely take one there. I'm considering every school and not trying to narrow things down yet. If someone will give me an opportunity, I'll take it."

Moore talked about the Hurricanes.

"I haven't been to Miami yet," he said. "Coach Kehoe came here and seems like a real nice guy. He was up here visiting Ryan Harris and heard about me. He said he was impressed and they liked me as a defensive end. If they give me an opportunity, I'll definitely consider it."

Moore – whose father Melvin Brown played for the Minnesota Vikings in 1984 after graduating from Northern Alabama – talked about what he's looking to accomplish this season.

"I just want to destroy everybody," he said. "I want to be able to make a name for myself and to have all of this hard work start paying off."
