Pata Moves to DT

Senior defensive lineman Bryan Pata has been moved to defensive tackle after three years at defensive end.

Bryan Pata was moved to defensive tackle as Teraz McCray recovers from knee surgery.

Pata is excited about the transition to tackle.

"I think it will help the team a lot," Pata said. "Going inside is no big deal."

Not only is Pata willing to move inside, but he feels his NFL future is at tackle.

He believes his strength and speed will enable him to fight off larger blockers inside, which will help the team have a formidable front four.

"He is very explosive and has size to be a dominant player," Coker said.

Pata currently weighs 280 pounds and would like to play at 285 this season. In the spring he got up to 292.

"I could gain and lose weight easily," Pata said. "I just have to put my mind to it."

Pata is playing left tackle with Kareem Brown at right tackle.

Baraka Atkins is at left end with Calais Campbell joining the starting lineup at right end.

Campbell is known for being a strong run-stopper while Atkins has the ability to record a double digit sack season.

Practice resumes tomorrow morning. All practices are closed to the public.
