Nick Fanuzzi made a very early commitment to the University of Miami and the San Antonio (Texas) Churchhill quarterback talked about the latest.

"We start school and practice next week so I'm just enjoying the final days of summer," Fanuzzi said on Monday night. "I've been working out getting ready for the season this whole summer."

The talented quarterback, 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, participated in a few camps this offseason.

"I went to the Scout one in Boca, the NIKE Camp in Gainesville, and then I went to an Elite 11 Tryout in Las Vegas," he said. "I thought I did good there. I really think they kinda know going in who's gonna get to go to the actual event because a few guys at the workout got picked and I thought I was as good as them. I was happy to see that I stacked up against what are supposedly the best quarterbacks in the country."

The talented signal-caller, who missed parts of his junior season because of injuries, remains firmly committed to the Hurricanes.

"I'm totally committed," he said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Berry and I'm really excited about my future at Miami. They have a great program and I think we'll have one of the nation's best, if not the best class in the nation."

Fanuzzi said he talks regularly with Coach Berry and that's how he first heard about the news on Daniel Stegall.

"That was unfortunate for the program because it means less quarterbacks on the team now," he said. "It puts me in a better situation because there are only two now. I was talking to the coaches about that. They told me their plan has changed. They said they're going after another quarterback because they probably need two now. I totally understand everything and I'm perfectly fine with that. There's nothing weird about it because I know the situation has changed. No matter what happens, I'm totally committed to Miami."

Fanuzzi said he's excited about recruiting some other top notch recruits for UM this coming season.

"I'll be talking to some of them," he said. "Like I said, I want us to have the top recruiting class in the nation. I know Terrance (Tolliver) has us in his top three. Coach Berry said he saw Deonte (Thompson) at CanesFest. The defense always looks solid. I'm very excited about the whole situation."
