Standout DE Gets UM Offer

This standout defensive end is one of the top defensive end prospects I've seen in the entire state this season. And it appears that the University of Miami coaches share those same feelings. The talented defender recently took an unofficial visit to UM and came away very impressed.

At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Carol City standout defensive end Eric Moncur talks about his recent trip to UM.

"It went real good when I went down there," Moncur said. "I met with all the coaches, including the strength coach who is from my high school. If I went there, it would be just like back home because they have so many local players and being at UM makes me feel like I'm at home."

Moncur, who was timed at the University of Florida one-day camp last month at 4.68 over 40 yards, is also a full academic qualifier inside the classroom.

"After my visit down to UM, they sent me a scholarship offer," he said. "I was like, 'damn!' because I didn't think they would offer me this early. They told me that I was one of the top defensive ends they're recruiting in Florida."

In addition, Moncur said he also has offers from Florida State, Rutgers, N.C. State, South Florida, Georgia, and Central Florida.

"I'm still pretty open at this point," he said. "I like UM but that's because I know the most about them. I want to check out some other places. The schools I want to visit are UM, Florida, N.C. State, Rutgers, and Tennessee."

Moncur said he liked the way UM has started its recruiting class.

"They got the dude from Central," he said. "If they can get the top d-linemen from down here, they should be straight."

As he talked about in our interview in June, Moncur still has one major thing on his mind.

"Our goals are still the same," he said. "We're out to win it all this season. I didn't go to many camps like some other kids because I wanted to stay home and work out with my teammates to make sure we're ready to make a serious run at winning it all this season."
