UM Watching In-State LB

Marquiste Ramos is one of the top defensive players in the Central Florida area this year and the Palm Bay (Bayside) standout talked about the latest.

"We're doing pretty good so far," Ramos said. "We're 3-2 and have a big game with Palm Bay this week. Last week I had 17 tackles against Eau Gallie and I got 49 now for the year. Things have been going well."

Ramos, 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, has an impressive list of coaches that have said they'll be watching his games in the coming weeks.

"Florida is supposed to come out to the Merritt Island game next week," he said. "Coach Brown from South Carolina is coming to the game Friday to watch me and (Palm Bay defensive back) Mike Williams. Coach Olson from Miami called last week and they're still waiting on more film. He said he's either gonna try to get here for one of my games or send the linebackers coach. Florida State's also recruiting me pretty hard and just waiting for more film."

What was UM coach Rich Olson talking about?

"He just checks in each week," he said. "We talk about school, football, stuff like that. Miami's been down this year. It's crazy how Louisville put it to 'em like that."

Don't expect Ramos to be taking any official visits anytime soon.

"I don't have any visits because my coach wants me to wait till after the season to take them," he said.

He currently has scholarship offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Central Florida, and FIU.

"Hopefully the coaches that are coming to watch like what they see and I get some more offers," he said. "It'll give me some more opportunities."
