Basketall Team Has First Practice Saturday

The season tips off for the University of Miami men's basketball team Saturday at 10 a.m. as the squad takes to the floor for its first official practice of the 2006-2007 season at the Hecht Athletic Center.

In his third year as coach, Frank Haith is now going to be working with a team that will be interior oriented with five players 6-foot-7 and taller, rather than perimeter oriented as was the case the past two seasons with Robert Hite and Guillermo Diaz.

Returning to this season's team include seniors Anthony King and Anthony Harris who must take on the leadership role that this team will sorely need.

Seeing the practice floor for the first time in their UM careers will include freshman power forward Dwayne Collins, small forward Lawrence Gilbert, shooting guard James Dews and JUCO transfer Fabio Nass.

Players that must make a much bigger impact this year than last year include the likes of sophomores Brian Asbury and Jimmy Graham, both who had major struggles throughout their freshmen seasons.

The practice will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., but is closed to the public.
