Daren Daly was let go by Florida State last year and had a number of schools contact him. He orginally chose to go to LSU, but two days before he was set to attend LSU, Miami contacted the Fort Lauderdale native and he accepted.
"I grew up a Hurricane fan and it was a lifelong dream," Daly said. "And I knew the situation I was coming into with the two guys being seniors."
Brian Monroe is serving a 1-game suspension for his incident in the FIU game, but is helping Daly, a sophomore, in preparing for his new role.
"He tells me little tricks that he has to relax," Daly said.
With Monroe out, Francesco Zampogna will assume the kickoff duties with Daly backing him up.
Daly is looking forward to his first game and is confident in his abilities.
"It's my first game ever playing as a punter and I've just been waiting for the opportunity to do something on the field as opposed to watching as a spectator," Daly said. "I'm real comfortable now, I wasn't at first, but once you get used to the rushes it becomes second nature. I feel great now.
"I can't be any more confident."
