Freshman CB to Start vs. Duke

Whatever it is that makes players successful, Chavez Grant has it.

Grant is looking forward to facing former high school rival Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis.

"I think it is going to be fun," said Grant, who played with Lewis as freshmen at Booker T. Washington in Miami before Lewis transferred to Hialeah-Miami Lakes.

Both players are in their first year of college.

"There is going to be some animosity because last year when we playing against each other I told him he was going to throw me a pick, and he did," Grant said. "But at the end of the game, it will be all love."

Lewis has thrown for 913 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions this season. He has also rushed for a touchdown.

"I think he is going to be real good," said Grant, who said the two still stay in touch. "He has a good head on his shoulders and always want to learn."

Grant is not worried about the UM defense having just six defensive backs on the roster for Duke as five were suspended for their actions in the FIU game.

"We have a lot of guys who can play the position," Grant said. "That is why we have back-ups--to hold it down until the other guys get back. We are all out here competing, but we have love for each other and teaching each other."
