Kyle Wright threw a season high three touchdown passes versus FIU, surpassing his season total of two heading into the game.
With his first touchdown to a receiver, Wright got a big monkey off his back for the season. Wright threw his second touchdown of the year to a receiver later in the game with a one yard pass to tight end Chris Zellner.
"That touchdown was really good," Wright said. "We all needed a game like that to get everybody's spirits back up and get everybody involved. It was nice to get a touchdown pass to Lance and get Chris Zellner involved, who is coming off an injury. It builds confidence for the receivers also."
Due to the suspensions from the FIU game, Miami will be without their third wide receiver in freshman Ryan Hill. UM will look to the inexperienced Rashaun Jones and Khalil Jones to help fill the void.
Khalil Jones has two catches on the year for 38 yards, while Rashaun Jones received his first significant action of the year versus FIU at punt returner with two returns for 37 yards.
"Rashaun Jones actually showed me a lot last week," Wright said. "You saw what he could do on the punt returns, but last week he had a great week of practice at wide receiver. We will definitely look for him and Khalil Jones to step up this week."
"I expect for the inexperienced guys to come in and do their job and the next week when the suspended guys come back, they will do the same thing."
Wright has said that he was impressed by the unity and intensity Miami played with after the fighting incident versus FIU.
Miami would like to build on that intensity this week versus Duke. The Blue Devils have the second worst passing defense in the ACC, surrendering 226 yards passing per game.
Duke, however does have one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC in John Talley. Talley, a senior, leads the ACC with four interceptions and has returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown.
"I am not trying to make what happened with FIU a positive thing, but guys responded in the right way after the fight," Wright said. "We came out and took it to FIU. It has definitely brought us together. With everybody in the media saying we should cancel the season and we are a bunch of criminals—outside of that locker room nobody else matters."
"I think our whole team is ready to turn the corner now. You are going to see the same team, but we are going to come out and get another win. There is a lot of negative things right now, but we are going to stick together and get our fourth win in a row."
