Basketball News & Notes: Oct. 26

The University of Miami had an intra squad scrimmage Wednesday with the scrimmage being open to season ticket holders only.

Following the scrimmage, UM coach Frank Haith admitted being pleased with the overall scrimmage and said the team has some good days and has some bad days, but in yesterday's scrimmage, Haith pointed out a few players for good play.

Specifically named as having good performances Wednesday including Denis Clemente, Brian Asbury, Jack McClinton, Fabio Nass, Dwayne Collins and Anthony Harris.

It's very promising that two of the newcomers are said to be performing well.

At the same time, freshman shooting guard James Dews did not compete in the scrimmage and sophomore Adrian Thomas was also held out.

Both of them have struggled with nagging injuries that have not allowed either to get back in the full flow of things yet.

Dews continues to battle a hurt foot while Thomas has a strained muscle in his abdomen. Both practiced some last week, but the coach staff decided to keep them out to allow their injuries to completely heal.

However, Haith said that both players should be back on the practice floor by Saturday.

We will continue to keep you updated every few days on the progress of the men's basketball team heading into the 2006-2007 basketball season.
